Historic Sugar Hill, NH Grows Into the Future

Whether it be the lupines of spring or the brilliant colors of fall, Sugar Hill, NH has long been considered one of New England’s most scenic locations. Visitors are now welcomed by a series of recent improvements that maintain and enhance the historic beauty of the town. It is rare in New England to see several historic businesses in such close proximity, experiencing such significant improvements at the same time.

The historic Inn at Sunset Hill (formerly the Sunset Hill House) has been in operation for nearly 150 years. Last year, with the assistance of lending from NCIC, Dick and Sally Green purchased the Inn ending an uncertain future for the property. The new owners rolled up their sleeves and quickly addressed many projects that have brought the Inn back to its past glory. Among the improvements guests will enjoy are updated decor, casual dining and a pub area, flat screen tv’s, new golf carts, upgraded plumbing and more. The Inn also has updated space to accommodate group and corporate functions.

Perhaps the most visual change has been Polly’s Pancake Parlor whose original building came down a year ago to make room for their new one. Many worried this would cause the renowned property to lose its charm, but far from it. The new facility is fabulous and customers are raving. NCIC was honored to partner with the NH Community Loan Fund with business support and to participate in the financing. The restaurant is now open year-round, serving iconic food, in their uniquely Polly’s way.

Other notable projects include the removal of several historic, but aging buildings at the junction of Route 117 and Sunset Hill Rd. next to the historic Sugar Hill Sampler. Amazingly, the absence of the buildings has resulted in improved views for visitors. The Pioneer Wedding Barn recently opened on the adjacent property and is certain to become known as one of New England’s most picturesque wedding venues. The Ledges on Sugar Hill boasts beautiful views and is home to five beautiful buildings which are undergoing major renovations, offering a new and traditional year-round lodging opportunity.

These investments focused on continuing the tradition of the area have helped to ensure a strong future for Sugar Hill and neighboring communities. We are sure these properties will welcome your business and offer and amazing experience.
