NCIC’s relationship with Scorpio’s dates back to 1996, when Melissa (Missy) Hanson purchased the restaurant known then as Northend Pizza with the assistance of an NCIC loan.

In 2010, financing provided by NCIC allowed additional improvements to be made at the 180 Main Street location in Lancaster including an expanded and redesigned kitchen and the purchase of a walk-in cooler. These changes improved the work flow and food preparation, and ultimately led to more efficient customer service.

Hanson also has expanded the restaurant to include a larger seating area and sports bar that accommodates 75 people, as well as a front and side outdoor deck. This has increased seating by more than 50 patrons during the summer and fall seasons. The restaurant is quite popular with locals and visitors alike!

Hanson says, “NCIC’s assistance has helped re-energize my commitment and passion for the business and my customers. Having owned the business for so long – 15 years – I feel as though we’re now entering a new and exciting growth phase. I see this growth as key to expanding our customer base by implementing creative marketing ideas and strengthening the foundation of our financial practices.”

NCIC’s Business Resource Manager, Mollie White, continues to work with Melissa to implement an action plan, with a goal of significantly increasing lunchtime business.

White says, “The acceptance of credit cards, a new website and great new dessert and catering menu are geared toward that goal and will ensure that she meets it within the next few months.”

“I’m fully confident that the implementation of an Action Plan will not only increase our sales, but create additional employment opportunities and help our business run more smoothly,” said Hanson.
